BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Designed for music graduate students, this course explores the characteristics and behavioral manifestations of students with disabilities via the music medium. Using the conceptual background and research of music therapy as well as educational best practices, participants will explore musical and nonmusical strategies for assessment, differentiated teaching, and performance. Provisions in education laws that empower music educators to provide quality inclusive music education will be highlighted. Course content will be presented in a hands-on, experiential fashion to maximize learning and immediate field applications.
